Jose Maria Borja Viceral, also known as Vice Ganda, is a Filipino actor, comedian, TV host, singer, writer, and fashion guru.
He was born on 31 March 1976 in Manila, Philippines.
He is the youngest sibling amongst his five brothers and sisters. He was called Tutoy during his growing up years much before he became famous as ‘Vice’.
It was during his college days, when his closest friends had called him 'Vice' taken from his surname Viceral.
Vice took up a course in Political Science at Far Eastern University, a place where he discovered the freedom from any pretention.
In the university, he walked the school hallways like a top model, dressed like a diva, and yet still managed to play basketball like a champion.
He made a name for himself at Far Eastern University, not for being funny, but through his exceptional sportsmanship.
Year 1999, when Vice unexpectedly entered the world of stand-up comedy.
One night with friends at a local comedy bar, the bar hosts asked him to join them on stage. They mocked Vice with insult jokes, but he surprised the audience when he answered with sharper one-liners that made everyone laugh harder.
Instantly, he was offered a job, joining the ranks of Metro Manila’s most beloved singer-comedians working for Punchline and The Library, among others. Comedy bar owner Mr. Ricardo Castañeda gave him the stage name Vice Ganda.
And the rest is history.
